One hundred years ago, people of every nation began to realize that the international conflict was far from over; that the glory and excitement of service was diminishing as the loss of life increased. One hundred years ago, soldiers of the Somme prayed for deliverance and thought of their families for one last time.<\/p>\n<p>The world has changed since then, but in the midst of our everyday lives, we cannot forget those who fought, suffered, and died for the freedom we have today. Today is not a day of celebration or mourning.
